SOPORE — A nocturnal gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Brath village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Reports said that a joint team of police, 22 army and 177, 179 and 92 Bn of CRPF launched a Cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Tantray Mohalla of Brath village.
Sources said that the hiding militants, however, fired upon the forces, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sopore said that the exchange of firing between militants and forces is going on.
Meanwhile, Kashmir zone police in a tweet also confirmed that the gunfight has been started. “#Encounter has started at Gund Brath area of #Sopore. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted. (KNO)
