RINAGAR — Amid rumours on social media which have created uncertainty among people, officials on Monday said that nothing is going to happen as is being speculated, KDC reported.
Quoting many unnamed ‘top’ officials including one from New Delhi, the report stated that rumours about further bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir or granting statehood to Jammu are baseless and are spread to ‘create confusion’ among people.
The visit of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha, other police and civil officials and their meeting with Indian Home Minister Amit Shah and other top officials was about current COVID-19, development and security situation, the report added. “Amarnath Yatra was also discussed during the meeting.”
“On Saturday, the LG held a meeting with Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla regarding security situation and possibility of Amarnath Yatra. On Sunday, he met the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh, RR Swain Special DGP CID, the outgoing Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, new Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta besides other top officials,” the report added.
It further quoted the officials having said that the government is monitoring social media users who are circulating ‘rumours’ among the public and law enforcement agencies have been asked to identify them.
The officials said action as warranted under law shall be taken against the ‘rumour mongers’. (KDC)
