SRINAGAR — Noted Jamaat-e-Islami activist Engineer Abdul Khaliq Mir passed away due to COVID-19 on Wednesday at his native village in Wadwan area of Budgam.
The deceased, popularly known A K Mir, was a renowned educationist of his area and had earned the sobriquet Sir Syed Ahmed Khan for his services in the field.
A former student of Regional Engineering College (REC) Srinagar, now National Institute of Technology (NIT), (1969-74), Mir was known for his great knowledge.
Having completed his degree from REC in 1974, Mir established the famous Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) wrist watch unit in Srinagar which was a successful story in private sector till 1990.
Engineer Mir was an ardent supporter of Jamaat-e-Islami. He lost two young sons between 2000 to 2012 after the eruption of militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Currently, he was the patron of a private high school in Wadwan area of Budgam which produced dozens of doctors, engineers and scientists. (KNT)
