ANANTNAG — Amid the steep surge in COVID-19 cases, the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag is facing a shortage of oxygen, attendants at the hospital alleged on Saturday.
A group of attendants alleged that patients who need high-flow oxygen are being kept on low-flow oxygen as high-flow oxygen supported beds are full.
A video also went viral on social media in which an elderly woman can be seen breathing heavily and his attendants demanding high-flow oxygen.
“This is GMC Anantnag and you can see how patients are dying for want of oxygen,” an attendant can be heard saying.
In-charge Medical Superintendent at the hospital, Dr Murtaza, termed the allegations baseless and stated that attendants create an unnecessary mess at the hospital.
He said that attendants keep three cylinders with them at a time and do not think about others.
Dr Murtaza said that bulk cylinders had exhausted at around 10 a.m. on Saturday but there was backup and within two hours, the cylinders were arranged.
He said that there is adequate oxygen supply at the hospital and there is no need to panic.
Dr Murtaza said, “We have taken up the issue with higher-ups to provide high-level security cover at the hospital so that attendants are prevented from creating any mess.” (KNO)
