JAMMU — Senior pro-freedom leader and Chairman Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai passed away on Wednesday at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu.
The jailed leader was shifted from Kot Bhalwal Jail to GMC Jammu on Tuesday after his health deteriorated.
A doctor at GMC said that Sehrai passed away on Wednesday morning. He said he was suffering from multiple ailments.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police from his residence in Srinagar in July 2020 and booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu last year.
Sehrai was elected as the chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, a constituent of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, which was previously headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
