THATHRI — A 15-year-old missing girl was rescued by the locals and policemen posted at Kalnai bridge after she jumped into Kalnai river near Thathri in Doda district, in a bid to end her life, on Tuesday.
Quoting an unnamed police official, KNO reported that the girl, who was kidnapped a few days ago, was rescued after she tried to commit suicide by jumping into the river.
He said that they had received a complaint on April 17 from one Mohammad Rafi, a resident of Nagni, that his 15-yr-old daughter (name withheld) was kidnapped by one Rehan, a resident of Gandoh, and others. He said that on this complaint, an FIR No. 37/2021 under section 363-109 IPC was registered at Police Station Thathri.
Meanwhile, Station House Officer (SHO) Thathri, Javid Iqbal, said during various raids at several places, the girl could not be traced. However, later, the missing girl surfaced on her own and jumped into the river Kalnai but was rescued alive.
He said that upon questioning the girl, she revealed that after leaving the house she went to Kishtwar and spent a night at Kishtwar hospital.
“On April 16, she came back from Kishtwar in a minibus and after reaching Thathri, the cleaner of the vehicle took her to an isolated place in the same vehicle and during night raped her,” he said.
He said that the cleaner of the vehicle, Mukesh Kumar, son of Banka Ram, a resident of Lawa village of Kishtwar, was arrested from an isolated place from the upper Thathri area. He said that the vehicle has also been seized and further investigation of the case was going on. (KNO)
