ANANTNAG — One unidentified militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight between government forces and militants in Semthan Bijbehara area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
Quoting a senior police officer, KNO reported that one unidentified militant has been killed whose identification is being ascertained while the operation is still on.
He said that the militants turned down repeated surrender offers.
Earlier, on Saturday evening, a joint team of police, army’s 3 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
Pertinently, 35 militants have been killed in Jammu and Kashmir so far this year and most of them belong to Shopian district.
Earlier on Sunday, three local militants, including a 19-year-old, were killed in another gunfight in Chitragam Kalan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Meanwhile, internet services have been snapped in Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts. (KNO)
