Srinagar: Many parts of north Kashmir received light rains while night temperature recorded a slight dip in Kashmir Valley, weatherman said on Thursday.
An official from meteorological department said that Srinagar recorded a low of 4.2°C against 6.2°C on the previous night. The minimum temperature was minus 0.5°C below normal for this time of the year in the capital.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a low of 3.8°C against 5.2°C on the previous night while mercury settled at 1.1°C against minus 3.7°C on the earlier night at Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Kokernag recorded a low of 2.6°C against previous night’s 5.0°C. The minimum temperature settled at 1.8°C in Kupwara against 5.2°C on the previous night while it recieved 1.4 m.m. of fresh rain in the last 24 hours, the official said.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5°C against minus 0.5°C on the previous night. The temperature at the world famous skiing resort which received nearly 3ft fresh snowfall last week was above normal by 0.8°C for this time of the year, the official said. It also had 0.8 m.m. of rainfall during the last 24 hours.
“Light rain may occur at isolated places of Kashmir from evening. There’s no forecast of any major rainfall activity till 20. As of today, it looks like 70% chance of light to moderate rain/snow during March 21, 23 with peak on 22 in J&K and at Sonmarg -Drass axis,” Director Meteorological department Sonam Lotus said. (GNS)
