Srinagar: A youth who was held after suspected militants attacked government forces in Barzulla area of Srinagar has been released, KNT reported.
Two policemen were killed in Barzulla after a suspected militant donning pheran resorted to indiscriminate firing on them while they were buying food stuff from a shop.
Shortly after the attack, a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) was launched while a youth, identified as Mudasir Ahmed, a resident of Old Chanapora was apprehended by the police.
The family of the youth had claimed that he is innocent, suffering from acute depression.
“He had gone to Barzulla to offer Friday prayers. He is innocent,” her relative had told reporters.
IGP Vijay Kumar also had told media that the youth has not been held but is only being questioned.
Police sources said that the youth was questioned about the attack but he turned out to be innocent and was subsequently released from the custody. (KNT)
