Like on Wednesday, people in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir Valley woke up to frozen environs on Thursday morning. From frost-laminated roads to still waters, everything looked locked in a frame.
The temperature plummeted with mercury settling at minus 8.4°C in Srinagar — the lowest temperature of this season so far and the coldest January night in the past 25 years.
The new low comes just a day after the city recorded minus 7.8°C — same as recorded eight years ago on January 14, 2012.
Dal Lake in Srinagar and other water bodies have frozen, so much so that children were seen playing cricket on its slippery floors — an adventure warned against by the authorities.
