Budgam Police arrest man for “kidnapping, sexually harassing” woman; locals allege father trying to influence case

Budgam Police on Monday registered a case of sexual harassment against a youth from the district and has arrested him in the case.

Police identified the youth as Arzan Ahmad Khan, son of Kounsar Ahmad Khan, a resident of Gulbarg Colony Hyderpora.

Police Station Budgam had received a complaint in which a 23-year-old girl (name withheld) had accused that the Khan gave her lift in his car but did not stop at her destination and instead took her to some unknown place and sexually harassed her.

A senior police official confirmed to KNT that the case has been registered under FIR No. 465/20 US 366, 376 IPC and the accused has been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the locals of the area have alleged that the accused is the son of a prominent hotelier who is trying to influence the case. They have also sought the intervention of higher officials to ensure transparency in the case.
