Srinagar: Christians across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday celebrated their holy festival, Christmas, with religious fervour and gaiety while the Tourism Department organized special functions in Jammu to mark the festival.
In the wee hours, many Christians visited the Holy Family Catholic Church at MA Road in Srinagar.
A large number of people including men, women and children were seen assembling at the Church to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ and participated in the special prayers.
The religious place in MA Road was decorated and wore a festive look.
Besides the local Christian population, tourists present in the Valley from outside Jammu and Kashmir also participated in the special prayers.
Many other churches across Kashmir also witnessed large gatherings of Christians in the morning when the prayers were held.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar city Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu, delivered Christmas cakes to the Churches in Srinagar as well as the members of the Christian community.
Besides, the tourism department has organized special functions today in Jammu.
Talking to KNO, Director Tourism, Nisar Ahmad, said that the functions were held in Jammu while no particular function for Christmas was held in Kashmir today.
He added that the department’s program is already going on in the Valley but no function for the particular day was organized today. (KNO)
