BJP’s rally boat capsizes in Dal Lake; many including journalists drown

Srinagar: A boat carrying BJP activists and leaders overturned in Dal Lake on Sunday during an election rally, leading to the drowning of some party men and three video journalists.

Officials said the party had organised a boat rally in Dal lake and one of the boats capsized near Ghat no. 17 adjacent to Chaar Chinary.

However, all of them were rescued immediately and given medical attention.

Reports said that besides MoS Finance, Anurag Thakur, who is also BJP’s DDC poll in-charge for J&K and the party’s National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, the rally was attended by Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, BJP’s National Spokesperson and some local leaders including Sofi Yousuf and Altaf Thakur.
