Delhi Police claimed to have arrested five persons after an ‘encounter’ in East Delhi’s Shakarpur area, PTI reported on Monday, quoting officials.
It is suspected that some of them might have links to militant groups, officials said.
Three of the five are from Kashmir and two belong to Punjab, they said.
Reports identified the three Kashmiris as Shabbir Ahmed, Ayub Pathan and Riyaz Rather.
The two from Punjab were identified as Gurjeet Singh and Sukhdeep Singh.
“We have apprehended five persons after an exchange of fire. Weapons and other incriminating material have also been recovered from their possession,” the report quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah as saying.
Some of them are suspected to have links with militant groups but this is being verified, he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
