Minor Kulgam girl raped, video uploaded to social media, accused arrested

Police arrest youth accused of raping 10-year-old neighbour girl in Uri

Kulgam: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a Kulgam resident accused of raping a minor girl, filming the crime and uploading the same on social media.

“Police Station Devsar received a written complaint from a person stating that his minor sister (name withheld) aged 17 Years has been raped, videographed and later on same obscene video has been uploaded on social media networks,” a Kulgam Police spokesperson said in a statement.

Acting promptly upon the complaint, police constituted a team, headed by SHO Devsar Inspector Jazib Mohammad, under the Supervision of DySP PC Kulgam Arvind Kumar Badgal, to nab the accused, the spokesperson said.

“Utilizing all available means with strenuous efforts, specific information was generated by the investigating team which led to the arrest of the accused within six hours after [the] complaint was received,” the statement read.

The accused has been identified as Mohd Aamir Bhat, son of Mohd Ishaq Bhat, a resident of Gudder village of Kulgam district.

A case vide FIR No. 120/2020 U/S 376, 506 IPC, 4 POCSO Act, 67A IT Act stands registered in Police Station Devsar and further investigation is going on.

Police said community members have hailed their efforts for timely action.
