Srinagar: What can be termed as a negligent attitude of the election-conducting authorities, voter slips have been issued to already dead locals in Ward-46 Islam Yarbal in Eidgah constituency of Srinagar in the ongoing maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections while dozens of living persons are missing from the voter list.
Locals said some of the once-residents have died more than five years back, but they have still found their place in the ‘revised’ voter list. This does not end here. Many living residents’ names are missing from the list.
While displaying the voter list, the locals told KNT that one Muhammad Lateef Khan from Islam Yarbal ward has died some five years ago but his name still figured in it.
Similarly, there is a couple namely Abdul Samad Sheikh and his wife Jana Begum. Both of them are dead but their names still figured in the voter list. This couple is from the same Islam Yarbal ward.
However, the locals said, there are dozens of people from the same ward who are alive but their names are missing from the voter list.
Sources said that the revised voter list, which was prepared after spending huge sums of money, is full of anomalies, leaving a lot of scope for fake voting. (KNT)
