Srinagar: On the first day of polling in maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections on Saturday, internet services were suspended in two districts of south Kashmir.
Quoting sources, KNT reported that people were deprived of availing internet benefits in Pulwama and Shopian due to DDC elections in these twin districts.
Thought polling is taking place in the first phase of DDC in other parts of the Valley as well, but the internet services were shut down only in Pulwama and Shopian districts.
Police sources said this was done due to “security reasons”, adding that the services will be restored after the culmination of polls.
Pertinently, DDC polls and Panchayat by-polls began in parts of Jammu and Kashmir today amid tight security arrangements. (KNT)
