Poonch: An alert has been sounded along Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district after a flying object was spotted in the Mendhar sector of the district on Sunday morning, Global News Service (GNS) reported, quoting official sources.
The object was probably a drone and army has even reportedly hit it with a shell.
SDPO Mendhar, Z A Jafri, told GNS that Army and special operation group of Mendhar Police were searching in the area.
Earlier on Friday night, the movement of a suspected “surveillance drone” along the international border (IB) in Samba district had put alarmed the border security agencies.
Quoting sources, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reported that locals and Border Security Force (BSF) troops along the IB noticed the movement of the drone amid darkness on Friday night.
“With the kind of light of the vehicle seen by ground troops, it is being established that it was around 300 to 500 meters inside the IB,” they said.
They added that soon after the movement of the aerial vehicle was reported, an alert was sounded and the entire area was searched but no untoward trace like that of weapon dropping was seen.
The officials further said that it is being suspected that the aerial vehicle was a kind of “surveillance drone”.
