Bandipora: India and Pakistan armies exchanged heavy gunfire on Friday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Quoting locals, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reported that India and Pakistan troops traded massive gunfire along the LoC, triggering panic in Izmerg and Bagtore areas.
The residents were shifted to safer places.
“The cross-border shelling is so intense that the people in far off villages were also hearing the sound of explosions,” they said.
A senior police officer said the Pakistan army initiated an “unprovoked ceasefire violation” this noon along the LoC in multiple locations including Bagtore and fired mortars and other weapons. The Indian Army gave a “befitting reply to the fire,” he said.
The officer said a few shells fell in the residential areas but no loss of life or injury was reported during the firing. KNO
