Srinagar: The Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Thursday released the list of joint candidates approved by the alliance to contest the first phase of upcoming maiden District Development Council (DDC) polls. The candidates have also filed their nomination papers.
The list was made public by the alliance spokesperson Sajad Lone on Twitter. However the actual names of the candidates are yet to be known.
The PAGD, according to the list, has fielded 27 candidates from three parties — 21 from National Conference, 4 from Peoples Democratic Party and 2 from Peoples Conference.
Meanwhile, Sajad, the spokesperson, said that all the candidates approved have filed their nomination papers.
“PAGD candidates approved for first phase have already filed their papers. List was conveyed to the parties. I am tweeting this in response to some media reports of list not having been issued yet,” Lone tweeted.
Earlier on November 7, PAGD in its first meeting in Jammu division decided to contest the DDC elections unitedly and left the declaration of the names of contestants to alliance president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
Two days later, Farooq said that the parties in the alliance shall contest the polls on their own symbols but there will be only one candidate of it in each segment.
He said only one joint candidate will be fielded from each constituency and the said candidate will be having the symbol of the party with which he is associated.
Pertinently, the first-ever elections for the DDCs will be held from November 28, in 8 phases, and will conclude on December 22.
The elections for the vacant seats of Sarpanchs and Panchs and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will also be held simultaneously with the DDC Polls.
