Kulgam: A man from Kulgam district lodged in Mattan Anantnag jail has died after a brief illness, an official said on Monday.
Quoting an official, Kashmir News Observer (KNO) reported that Shahzad Ahmad Wani, 42, son of Ali Muhammad Wani, of Shalipora Kulgam, who was booked in a case under number 82/2019 under Section 13 Unlawful Activities at Police Station DH Pora, died on Monday.
The official said the Kulgam resident was arrested days after five non-local labourers were killed by suspected militants in Katrasoo Anantnag on October 29, 2019.
DIG Prisons, Muhammed Sultan Lone, told KNO that the deceased was unwell and he died at a hospital on Monday.
He said that further reports and cause of death is being ascertained and details will be shared later.
Block Medical Officer Mattan, Dr Salim Beigh, told Global News Service (GNS) that Wani was brought to PHC Mattan wherefrom he was referred to GMC Anantnag last night.
Medical Superintendent GMC Anantnag, Dr Iqbal Sofi, told the news agency that the deceased was brought dead and postmortem was done later.
