Srinagar: Prominent south Kashmir preacher Sarjan Barkati has been released after 4 years of detention, Kashmir News Trust (KNT) reported.
“Though he is yet to reach home yet but he has been freed from Police Station Hurpora Shopian and is on way to his home,” his wife told KNT.
Sarjan Barkati, who earned sobriquets like ‘Azaadi Chacha’ and ‘Pied Piper’, was arrested by police in 2016 for attracting huge crowds to processions during the 2016 mass uprising in Kashmir after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani
He was later booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).
