Flags and banners won’t change reality, fix roads before organising My Town My Pride: Anantnag locals to government

Anantnag: Locals in different parts of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have appealed the administration to focus on interior roads first before organising My Town My Pride shows in the district.

They said from the past three years, the interior roads of Anantnag town are in shambles.

“These streets and roads were disfigured by Urban Engineering and Environment Department (UEED) that started work on the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Anantnag town in 2018,” some locals alleged.

“Government has launched an initiative by the name of My Town My Pride but we want to ask the government where is the town and where is the pride when a majority of the interior roads are in shambles and nobody pays heed to them,” the locals told Kashmir News Trust.

“Main roads have been fixed but the interior roads in multiple areas of Anantnag town are still in shambles, and, despite government allocating funds for the repairing of these roads, R&B has done nothing much, to the annoyance of the people.

“Hoisting flags and banners won’t change the ground reality. To fix underground sewage pipes, UEED dug up the roads in almost all the market places and interiors of the town with the permission of Roads and Buildings Department Though the market roads were macadamized after public outcry, the interior roads and streets were left unattended,” the locals said.

“The streets of Sarnal, Kadipora, Cheeni Chowk, Reshibazar, Janglatmandi, Ashajipora, Lazibal, Malaknag are in shambles. Winter is coming and it will be difficult for people to pass through these streets during rain or snowfall,” the locals said, adding that potholes on the roads create problems for commuters and pedestrians as well.
