Omar, Farooq, party workers meet Mehbooba; invited to meet Gupkar Declaration signatories tomorrow

Srinagar: Scores of leaders and workers met PDP president Mehbooba Mufti at her Gupkar residence on Wednesday after she was released after her 14-month-long detention. Those who met her include Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.

Shortly after meeting Mehbooba Mufti, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted: “My father & I called on Mehbooba Mufti Sahiba this afternoon to enquire about her well-being after her release from detention. She has kindly accepted Farooq Sb’s invitation to join a meeting of the Gupkar Declaration signatories’ tomorrow afternoon.”

Mehbooba responded to the tweet and wrote: “It was nice of you & Farooq sahab to come home. It gave me courage listening to him. I am sure together we all can change things for the better.”

There was a beeline of workers and activists at Mehbooba’s Gupkar residence. Some workers garlanded her while others hailed her for her ‘steadfastness’.

PDP leaders took to Twitter to hail what they call her ‘bravery’ and ‘steadfastness’.

Mohit Bhan, a spokesman of the PDP, praised Mehbooba for her message. “That’s how a leader talks. No 4G restoration demands. No Statehood restoration demands. One and only demand and resolve to fight for it. Restore our dignity, restore our pride and restore our rights,” Bhan said, apparently in reference to Farooq Abdullah who demanded the restoration of 4G in the Indian Parliament.

Several PDP leaders, including former MLA from Wachi Aijaz Mir, took to Twitter to welcome her. “After a detention period of 1 year and 2 months, our party president Mehbooba Mufti Sahiba released today. We salute her steadfast determination & exemplary courage!” Mir tweeted.

The party workers were jubilant after interacting with Mehbooba Mufti. A party leader said that Mehbooba will participate in a meeting tomorrow that will be held at Farooq Abdullah’s residence where she may interact with media. KNT
