Pulwama: Three journalists were thrashed by Police while they were covering the ongoing gunfight between government forces and militants in Marwal village in Kakapora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday.
Among the beaten journalists are Kamran Yousuf, Faisal Bashir and Reshi Irshad.
Speaking to Kashmir Bylines over phone, Faisal said that they were chased by SOG of J&K Police and hit by clubs.
“We had gone there for our usual work, but all of a sudden they came towards us and started beating Kamran and me mercilessly, without assigning a reason. Irshad was also hurt,” Faisal said.
“They (police) tried to harm my equipment (camera) as well but I hardly managed to save it,” Faisal said, adding that he is heading home now, leaving his work mid-way.
He also added that Kamran has left the site before him.
Reports reaching Kashmir Bylines suggest that Kamran has been shifted to a Srinagar hospital for further treatment. “He was hurt in legs and could not walk properly,” a source said.
Meanwhile, a purported video circulating on social media shows some policemen beating Kamran with batons. The authenticity of the video could not be verified.
This is not the first time journalists in Kashmir have been harassed or beaten by government forces.
