Srinagar: All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has demanded immediate and unconditional release of all those arrested and lodged in various jails in Jammu and Kashmir and across India before and after August 5, 2019.
In a statement, the conglomerate expressed serious concern over the condition of Kashmiri prisoners including Hurriyat leaders, activists and thousands of youths and Kashmiris from all walks of life who are detained in jails in Tihar, Kot Bhalwal, Jodhpur, Agra, Amphala, Haryana and other places of India or have been under house arrest before and after August 5, 2019, especially in times of COVID 19.
APHC said these prisoners are “targets of oppression.”
APHC said that its’s chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, continues to be under arbitrary house arrest since August 5, 2019, which is “extreme high handedness of the state.”
“Such repressive actions by the authorities is not only violation of his and other prisoners’ basic human rights but also an extreme step against their right to personal liberty guaranteed by world forums as the fundamental human rights of all people living on the globe,” the statement said.
The conglomerate said that due to continuous detention and prison conditions, the physical and mental condition of most of the prisoners has gone from bad to worse.
“This is a matter of serious concern and worry for the people of Kashmir and the world’s nations and human rights organisations have to take note of it.”
APHC reiterated that the policy of “fear and repression” cannot alter the reality on the ground with regard to people’s belief in their sentiment and their hope to realise it.
“It is stark for those willing to see it. It is long overdue that it is engaged with. The dispute has to be resolved sooner or later. The sooner it is resolved directly by going to the people of all regions of J&K as it existed before August 1947 or through deliberations among the key stakeholders known to all, the better it is for the people and peace of the entire region,” the statement said.
