Srinagar: A militant has been killed in ongoing encounter in Yadipora area of Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Citing unnamed official sources, Global News Service reported that a militant has been killed in the ongoing encounter. However, his identification could not be ascertained yet.

In the initial exchange of firing, an army major of 29 RR was injured who was evacuated to 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

A senior police officer told GNS that the operation was halted for some time as some civilians were trapped inside the encounter area. After they were evacuated, the operation was resumed.

Earlier in the day, a joint team of Police, Army’s 29 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Yadipora.

As the joint team encircled the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them. The fire was retaliated by the joint team triggering off an encounter. GNS
