Pulwama: A gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Babhara area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday. This is the second encounter since morning.
Earlier, an encounter started at Pattan area of North Kashmir where two unidentified militants were killed. Besides, an army major and one SoG personnel were injured while the gunfight was still on.
About Pulwama encounter, an official told Kashmir News Observer that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as the joint teams of forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of fire between forces and militants.
As per sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area. KNO
