33 killed in Kashmir in August, including 16 militants & 10 forces personnel

Srinagar: Thirty-three persons including 16 militants and 10 personnel from combined forces have been killed in the ongoing month of August in Kashmir Valley.

An infiltrator was also killed by Army in Rajouri while a panch from Khonmoh area of Srinagar outskirts was killed after being abducted.

As per data available with Kashmir News Trust, six civilians were killed in August. These include a BJP worker Abdul Hamid Najar from Ompora Budgam, Khonmoh panch Nisar Bhat alias Cobra and a 42-year-old mentally retarded person, Azad Ahmed Dar, of Dadoora Kangan village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama. All these men were allegedly shot dead by suspected militants.

Those killed in cross-border firing include Muhammad Arif of Rangwar Kupwara, 65-year-old Sadiq Ahmed from Poonch and Muhammad Yakub Mir of Tanghdar.

At least 16 militants were killed in different gunfights that raged in Kamrazipora Pulwama, Kreeri Baramulla, Mool Chitragam Shopian, Ganapora Kralgund area of Handwara, Kiloora Shopian, Zadoora Pulwama and Pantha Chowk Srinagar.

Among the 10 combined forces personnel who were killed in ongoing August were 4 army soldiers, 4 policemen and 2 paramilitary troopers.

Some of the top militant commanders killed this month were Azad Lelhari, Nasiruddin Lone, Sajad Hyder and Adil Hafiz.

In the first 8 months of the current year, 161 militants and 61 combined forces personnel have been killed. June was the bloodiest month when 50 militants were killed in 30 days. KNT
