Police harass Srinagar journalist’s family, vandalise house; father hit in head

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir police on Friday harassed a Srinagar journalist’s family and vandalised his house while they were chasing some youth during Muharram processions in his area.

Idrees Abbas, a young freelance photographer from Alamgari Bazar, told Kashmir Bylines that while Muharram processions were going on near his house, police started chasing some youth.

“A few policemen started to strike our main gate heavily. When my brother asked them for the reason, they threw stones on the windows of our house and broke two of them,” Idrees said.

“As they continued to beat the gate, my father went to open it. As soon as he did, they hit his head with a club and he fainted,” he said adding that he has been taken to hospital for treatment.
