Srinagar: Police have booked several persons for raising pro-freedom slogans during a Muharram procession in Srinagar outskirts.

A police spokesperson said that after a video in which mourners were found chanting pro-Azadi slogans in a Mauharram Procession surfaced on social media, Police Station Parimpora took cognizance of the matter and identified the location situated at the end of Hokersar Nowpora Bund, about 2.5 kms inside the Hokersar road.

“The area is isolated and there is no history of any such unlawful gathering before. Neither was there input of any procession nor was there any police presence as the area is far from main Imambara. It has been revealed that some boys from adjoining area of Budgam led by Sajad Hussain Parray, Arif Ahmad Dar and Raja Mehboob – Gund Hassi Bhat – took advantage of the area and raised pro-Azadi slogans,” the spokesperson said.

Police have also registered a case under FIR number 177/2020 U/S 13 ULA (P) Act ,143,188,269 IPC against the accused.

“Midnight raids were conducted in which two persons have been arrested,” the spokesperson said adding that further arrests are expected in the said case and the investigation is going on,” the spokesperson added. KNT
