Kupwara: Protest demonstrations were held today after Friday prayers at several places across Kashmir Valley against the blasphemous remarks made by a self-styled godman against the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Global News Service reported that the multiple peaceful protest rallies joined by young and old were taken in Kupwara from several mosques including Markaz-e-Jamia Masjid Chandigam, Sogam, Krusan, Auqaaf-i-Islamia Markazi Jamia Masjid Lalpora.

The protestors urged administration to speed-up the enquiry into the incident that happened last week.

“It has been over a week now and we are yet to see any significant action against the culprits” one of the protestors said, adding that they urge the administration to speed-up the investigations to bring the culprits to justice.

“Such unscrupulous elements disguised as sadhus (godmen) should be dealt with sternly to stop the spread of communal hatred,” said another protestor.

“Any act of dishonour against the Prophet ﷺ is unacceptable to Muslims, and to raise voice against the act is a matter of faith for every Muslim,” the protestor said, adding that “Our Prophet ﷺ is our honour and pride, and we cannot compromise and tolerate any such act that is aimed to bring disrepute to Him. The protesters demanded strict punishment for all those involved in this act on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, similar protests were also held in other parts of the Valley including Nowpora Baramulla where hundreds of people rallied against the blasphemy remarks.

Reports of similar demonstrations were received from several area of civil lines and Downtown area of Srinagar. GNS
