Amid its intensified raids on Gaza over the last many days, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has threatened to assassinate Palestinian resistance leaders in the Gaza Strip.
“We have been striking Hamas every day, for 11 nights in a row. If we need we’ll do much more,” Netanyahu said in a statement.
Suggesting that Israel may employ targeted killings of senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad figures, Netanyahu said that the twin groups “must realize that what happened to them last time will become doubled and tripled now, including the targeting.”
He was apparently referring to the assassination of a prominent Islamic Jihad commander, Baha Abu Al-Ata, in an Israeli strike in November last year.
The Israeli army has intensified its raids on Gaza over past one week. It has also been tightening the blockade on Gaza where it banned the entry of fuel for the strips’ only power plant, plunging the Palestinian territory into darkness.
